Inspiration for Capsule House Design

2025-06-15

🎉 On this special day, let's take a break and reflect on whether our work can be more intelligent and relaxed, in order to create greater value.

Today, I would like to share with you an interesting project - Capsule House

Capsule Home is a villa built by Kisho Kurokawa in Kitasaka gun, Nagano Prefecture in 1973. Its design inspiration comes from Kurokawa's Nakagin Capsule Tower in Tokyo, both of which embody the concept of metabolic architecture and incorporate the idea of future capsule replacement. The design of the Capsule Home uses the same capsule modules as each room in the house, which not only embodies the concept of metabolism, but also has the characteristics of recyclability and exchange.

The concept of Capsule Home is similar to the "living building" proposed by Yuanda now. Future buildings can be green, zero carbon, and intelligent standard modules that can be assembled, recycled, and replaced according to demand. This design concept brings infinite possibilities to the construction industry, just like Lego bricks, which can be freely combined to create various forms of buildings.Capsule Home

The main uses of Capsule Home include accommodation, office, and storage.

Capsule Home integrate bathroom, kitchen and other facilities in confined spaces through lightweight partitions, three-dimensional storage and other technological means, mainly serving low-income groups and mobile populations in cities. In addition, Capsule Home can also serve as temporary residences, especially suitable for business people or those who need to stay in the city for a short period of time.

Specific application scenarios of Capsule Home

Accommodation: Capsule Home  are an affordable accommodation option, typically located in the city center or near train stations, with convenient transportation and relatively low prices. These hotels are equipped with necessary facilities such as television, air conditioning, USB charging ports, and wireless internet.

Office: Capsule Home can be used as a private work or study space, especially suitable for people who need a quiet environment for work or study. They have good sound insulation and easy cleaning characteristics, and can be used for working, drinking tea, reading books, etc. inside.

Storage: Due to its small size and compact structure, capsule houses can also be used for storing items, saving space and being easy to move.Capsule Home

Economical points of Capsule Home

Intensive utilization of space

The design of Capsule Home enables efficient use of space, with each room having a small area, typically only a few square meters, but providing basic accommodation functions

This design not only reduces construction and operation costs, but also allows multiple rooms to be arranged in a limited space, further reducing the cost of a single room.

Applicable population and market demand

Capsule Home are mainly aimed at young people, people with average economic conditions, and those in need of short-term accommodation. Against the backdrop of high housing prices and high rental pressure, capsule housing has become an affordable accommodation choice, especially popular among young people in first and second tier cities

In addition, Capsule Home are also suitable for tourists and short-term travelers, providing a convenient and economical accommodation option
